As an actor, Jesse Baxter is greatly influenced by the intimate listening and honest responding of Sanford Meisner's techniques, as well as the disciplined specifity and expansive freedom of Anne Bogart & the SITI Company's techniques. Baxter's performances are also greatly influenced by his travels abroad, life experiences that motivate out of the box thinking and generate unique choices.
Through his work with Dramatic Adventure Theatre, Baxter has had the opportunity to create many devised works and explore how best to respond with theatre to new places, unique cultures, uncovered histories, and the specific needs of communities and individuals. Along the journey, he has discovered the importance of finding common ground and relatable humanity in his work. Perhaps more importantly, he has witnessed just how powerful theatre can be.
There is a rawness to his work on the stage that strips away the polite, and because of this he is often cast as the wolf in sheep's clothing... a role Baxter cherishes, as he enjoys the challenge of finding the humanity and relatability in a character.
Currently Jesse Baxter is interested in exploring new takes on classic works, as well as original pieces.
