As a director who understands what it means to be an actor, Jesse Baxter sees himself as a facilitator charged with the task of establishing and maintaining a safe, sacred environment that will lead to creative discovery.
Baxter firmly believes that theatre is essentially about two things, story and human to human connection. If you can weave a good story and can make the human connection honest and tangible, then you can not fail. The set could be falling apart and costumes barely held together with duct tape and the audience will stay with you, just as long as the story is clear and the connection is strong. Never underestimate the willingness of the audience to aid the theatrical experience with their imagination and suspension of disbelief. That being said, Jesse Baxter sets a high standard for his work and has a careful eye for detail & dynamics, thoroughly believing that less is almost always more!
Through his work with Dramatic Adventure Theatre, Baxter has had the opportunity to create many devised works and explore how best to respond with theatre to new places, unique cultures, uncovered histories, and the specific needs of communities and individuals. Along the journey, he has discovered the importance of finding common ground and relatable humanity in his work. Perhaps more importantly, Baxter has witnessed just how powerful theatre can be.
